New definitions of Abstinence and Recovery passed at OA World Service Business Conference

OA World Service Business Conference occurred May 9-11th, 2019 in New Mexico. You can read the wrap-up report here.

Of note, a change in the definition of Abstinence and Recovery was passed at the conference. See the new definitions below:

  1. Abstinence: The act of refraining from compulsive eating and compulsive food behaviours while working towards or maintaining a healthy body weight.

  2. Recovery: removal of the need to engage in compulsive eating behaviours. Spiritual, emotional, and physical recovery is achieved through working and living the Overeaters Anonymous Twelve-step program.

Also, the new book Body Image, Relationships, and Sexuality: Personal Journeys to Recovery in Overeaters Anonymous was granted the Conference Seal of Approval.
